Just play 10 games. Take notes and watch reps. Build towers and expand.|||Quote:

Yes.

Stick to flying units and don't attack until all your enemies are weakened/dead.|||I've been smurfing my way up the FFA ladder now for the past couple weeks. I was also ranked pretty high on FFA in RoC when FFA race balance was a joke.

What exactly do you want to know? Are you looking for strats for any specific race? Any specific maps? Let me know and I'll try to help you out. Maybe even write a couple guides, who knows.|||take humans, place a wall of farms. place a wall of cannon towers behind the walls, and a wall of guard towers behind that wall, blocking all acces to your base (hell, even make 2 farm walls). Make 5 workshop thingies. Upgrade gyrocopters damage and abilities. Make only gyrocopters. keep rallying them so dead gyros=new ones! Harass your opponents to hell. You won't be taken serious since gyros suck. but... ne mine+gyros=regrowth 24/7. mass chimes/destroyers/gryphs = :( for them. When they stop going air, expand and focus on siege tanks only :P succes guaranteed|||Undead:

- Wagonmancer

- Mass air

Human:

- mixed army

- mass tanks

- air/tanks

Night Elf:

- Bears/dryads(/MG?)

- Chimeras/hippos

Orc:

- Mass bats

- Tauren/caster/berzekers

Remember that getting high level heroes and expanding is vital in the FFA game type. Visit www.clan-lone.com for more info on FFA! xD

Specifically, Im looking for more advanced human strategies, as I am decent in FFA. btw, massing towers and turtling never wins. If you know any more advanced ones, or know of any good replays, I would be grateful. Thanks :D

-CA|||Ok, just a quick run down of human in FFAs. I dont play as human (I do the other 3 races though and have a decent ranked account for all of them) but I've played against them enough to know some strats.

It seems like the best heros to go are AM, Paly, and MK... in that order. The AM gives you the ability to do difficult creep early and has a great ultimate for FFAs, The paly assures you will never lose a hero (make sure you get devine shield on him as well, at least a point) and has a very nice ultimate, MK provides you with ability to stop channeling spells (which you need), and the only real direct damage you have. Plus, storm bolt + holy light is the only real way to kill undead heros in an FFA.

human has by far the most diverse range of strats in ffa. They are the only race that I think needs to do the entire tech tree to compete in every game, which is really an advantage, as it allows you to easily counter whatever your most difficult opponent has.

a neat little trick is to hide a critter in everyones base. No one looks for them in FFAs, so you'll get some scouting out of it. Also, if you get mass teleport, you can really surprise someone.

Human has a couple strong points, more in what they are capable of countering better then anyone else then in what they can really do. And that is, heavy air. You see more Chims/Hippos and FrostWyrm/Gargs/Destros then anything in FFAs. Tanks flat out own these. In addition to that, human has a magic immune ground unit in the spell breaker.

Theres really 4 common human strats. The mass casters with knights, which can be strong. The little bit of everything (mass casters with knights, and griphss). The just grifs. And then the mass tanks. Personally, I think the best default strat is the little bit of everything. Once you do some scouting, counter accordingly.

as for basic ffa strats... that whole turtling thing... almost never works. You want to creep early, expand where ever you can without a fight (IE, dont try to set up mines that are an equal distance between you and an opponent when you have one thats alone). Once you've exhausted your creep spots and have at least one expo up scout your closest enemies. Take on the one thats weakest. Once hes dropped, expo his spots, rebuild your army, move on to the next opponent.

You never want to attack someone unless you are sure you can finish them. Making enemies in an FFA is never a good idea.

Scouting is important. You always want to make sure your army is geared towards countering the toughest opponent. If you dont know who that is, just gear it towards countering

If you cant take someone down, dont attack him. Wait for him to be attacked or attack someone else, then move in for the kill.

You should only tower an expo if its going to be contested, or if you are sitting on a huge army, a ton of cash, and each of your heros has a healing scroll.

oh yeah, and buy items, especially healing scrolls.

FFA is just like other game types. If you arent moving, you arent winning. Sitting in your base does nothing but waste time.

Dont be afraid to be an ass. If you see an opponent who has a unprotected mine, send in a couple of air units to take out the workers. If he TPs in, he lost the TP. If he doesnt, he loses all his workers, some gold, and you get experience.

learn the tricks to your race and exploit them (humans can malitia expo a lot of maps earlier then anyone else is even close to doing, NE can uproot an entire base to go someplace else, and can simply move a tree to a new mine instead of building a new one, UD can unsummon buildings it doesnt need, and orc... well... orc can mass towers.)

eh, I dont know if I said everything I wanted to and I dont have time to reread it as I got to head to gym. Hope this was helpful.|||Thanks a lot Rexxxar, especially for confirming that mass towers does next to nothing. I need to work on militia expanding. How many expansions do you usually have in a typical FFA? I've heard getting three (or two and your main) is the norm, but it seems so excessive! Thanks a lot tho, your input is appreciated. :D

-CA|||Im no FFA player but Ive found by watching FFA reps that if you win the "expansion war" and secure a couple expos you'll be fine. :P|||Quote:

The link I provided (www.clan-lone.com) contains quite a few FFA guides by "pro" FFA players. I play FFA occasionally, and I've figured human might be the best and most versatile race.|||Nice link, thanks Stenis! that site is great actually. :D
