What do with Dread Lord?

I found the dread lord to be quite interesting and tried using him lately. However, I find that getting ghouls until I can get aboms out doesn't work too good. The ghouls just die too quickly, especially if the enemy attacks and I'm forced to engage.

Whats the trick to using dread lord?

Should he not be gotten as first hero?

Anyone have any good replays I can watch and learn?|||Quote:

ghouls and necro's and aboms....leaves you with no AA

HOWEVER, the tri hero nuke is great with UD

Try a swarm/nova/coil

or if you need a second to get it off:

impale/swarm/Nova(or coil here)

I tend to get the lich myself:

1. stays to back so my bad micro won't let it die as quick

2. Frost nova kills all, even UD vss Coil

3. Frost armor on CL means 14+ armor by tier 3 on both

4. dnd can kill off a town easily while the rest of your army draws them out (or used with invisibility with a human partner)

Back to the DL, the ultimate is probably one of the best, and you can sleep a hero and a couple of casters in no time while you just let your army do their thing, DEFINATLY an advantage when they have a powerful hero, esp. with one's that don't have aura's, but do have good casts (ex. coil or nova, stomp, heal wave, elemental, earthquake, etc. etc. etc.)

Really, the DL needs to be coupled with another hero to be effective, but maybe that's just me....|||Sleep is indeed very good, Also you can use the carrion swarm VS units with small hp (mostly not that effective against orc players with grunts, but more effective VS archers/footmen/ghouls because of there low hp) Further I always get 3 hero's myself anyway, I might not have an ulti by the time my opponent has it, but he is mostly dead by then ... I really like to use 3 hero's, it just rox because you can stun/slow so much more (I play ud myself 2) and don't forget the aura's etc ... It needs a bit of mico-ing (not that much) but it will just boost your army a lott (a lott more then the gold and lumber they cost ...)

But DL is good, just maybe use carrion swarm first and optional sleep ...|||Ah, my favorite UD hero. Here is the strategy I use (granted I play human most of the time, but whenever I play UD I use this strategy and only this one).

Get dreadlord and dual crypts. No second hero - remember that! Fast leveling is crucial.

Get aura and start creeping. Creep until you're level 5 - it's actually pretty easy with ghouls and dreadlord. Late game, you should add statues, atleast two of them. I usually find abominations to be a waste of time, but if it floats your boat then I guess it can't hurt. You can't replace them as fast as ghouls though, and that's where this strategy shines - you'll always have a full army since you can always replace lost ghouls quickly because of your dual crypts and their price.

Then, when you're level 5, with either lvl 3 aura and lvl 2 sleep or lvl 2 aura and lvl 3 sleep (depending on what your enemy has), you attack. Sleep-surround heroes or sleep the hard-hitting units like air. Nine times out of ten, you'll level to six in the next battle. Infernal = gg, that's a fact.

Carrion swarm sucks. It's IMO the most useless spell in the game. It's like shockwave, but it can't hurt buildings - what's the point? Cluster rockets are more useful than swarm. There is no reason to pick carrion swarm over sleep or aura. Unless you mass range of course, and in that cause why did you get a dreadlord?|||Quote:

Will sometimes work as a fun strat, but imo not vs good players. Orc will get mass wyvs the second he scouts your ghouls, all the more so if you can't even novacoil them; plus, either chainwave will tear through the ghouls or he'll be laughing out loud when you surround his stomping TC. Human will have one expo at the very least if you don't pressure him early, and ghouls will get murdered by mass towers until he has gryphs. A couple of wagons won't help vs human tower upgrades. Nelf used to be quite weak vs good DL users especially if the UD fastexpo'd and got mass gargs later, but nowadays you see less DH and a lot more BstM and DR, and they are a lot stronger earlygame, so you'll probably have problems too. You could try a necrowagon push with DL first though. And finally, opposing Undeads will just AoE and garg/destro the living daylights out of you.

Granted, I always go fiends so I only ever use DL as 3rd hero and don't have much experience, but I really can't imagine it working well vs a decent player who scouts. However, if you take advantage of your dual rax and sleep earlygame, you might be able to weaken them enough to either stall them until you're lvl 6 or beat them with better units (mainly gargs vs NE/UD, destros vs HU/OC) later.|||Sleep/aura/sleep/aura/aura/infernAL \0/|||sleep and surround!|||hello captain obvious :>|||It was an obvious question.|||Well, yes.

We're having a really intelligent conversation these last four posts. :S|||I would usually use the guy on the horse to own, because his death coil heals units which is pretty usefull|||Lol .|||lol . .|||Quote:
